Sir Bani Yas Island was established in 1971 by the late founder of the UAE, HH Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan as a Royal Nature Reserve, and is one of eight islands located in Al Dhafra, Abu Dhabi's western region. It boasts 87 km² of stunning nature, all sorts of wildlife, forty-two historical sites and adventure-based activities.. The Sir Bani Yas Island is a place that will be the largest area of ecotourism in the UAE in the near future. In 1971, the first president of the Emirates, Sheikh Zayed, created a private reserve of rare endangered species of animals on Sir Bani Yas. Now, 23 species inhabit Sir Bani Yas, among which only the oryxes - not less than 400 individuals.
